MediaWorks is an Arts-in-Education program designed to integrate media arts with Common Core curriculum to create new pathways for student success.
Proctors is working with Ballston Spa High School, Schenectady High School and the Discovery Academy at Albany High School to integrate media arts into English Language Arts curriculum. A professional media artist works with a team of teachers to develop and implement new learning pathways, based on Common Core standards and Project-Based Learning, to increase student engagement, attendance and success.
Our Teaching Artists
Erin Beaulac brings nearly a dozen years of professional television and communications experience with her to Schenectady High School. She has been a reporter, producer, director, photographer, editor, and now Teaching Artist. Erin has worked on projects with business and government leaders from around the country; and worked with famous names like Bill Clinton, Kevin Bacon, and The Beach Boys. She is eager to pass on her knowledge to the students at Schenectady High School, and looks forward to learning from them too. When Erin isn’t working she enjoys playing ice hockey, reading, and spending time with her husband and dogs.
Jon Dorflinger, writer, filmmaker, and teacher, is currently the Media Arts teacher at Ballston Spa High School. Jon is a graduate of the University of Southern California (USC). He worked in production for 6 years in the Hollywood Film Industry on such films as Seabiscuit, The Terminal, Team America, and Memoirs of a Geisha, with such names as Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, Toby Maguire, Trey Parker and Matt Stone. While working for a VP in Production at Warner Brothers Studios, he learned the Hollywood business through his training in production management. As the personal assistant to writer/director Tom Brady, he was involved in the creative process of writing, casting, producing, and post-production of The Comebacks starring David Koechner (Anchorman). He completed the Professional Program in Screenwriting at UCLA, and is currently in midst of several writing projects for books, movies, and TV. This former “Teacher of the Year” taught high school English in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and holds a Masters Degree in Teaching and two teaching certifications for both California and New York State in 7-12 English Language Arts. In addition to his teaching role at Ballston Spa High School, Jon also is the founder and CEO of The Saratoga Film Academy, an after-school hands-on film school for kids and teens.
